How to plan for your senior portrait session
senior year is finally here!
After all of your years of hard work, your final year of high school has arrived. With it comes your official start to the year; senior portraits. Usually these are done before you begin your school year, and here at C&S Photography we love capturing this pivotal moment in time. We get plenty of questions from our seniors on how to prep, so we decided to make this guide to better help you prepare for our time together.
things to plan ahead:
Outfits. You can have up to three outfit changes during your session with us. It is important to have a good variety on hand! Do you play a sport? Bring all of it! Do you like to dress up? Bring a suit or a dress! Make sure it is clothing you are both comfortable and confident in; wear it before your session and see how it makes you feel! [Don’t pick outfits that have loud patterns though, we want to make sure your face is the highlight of the image!]
Hair/Makeup. Avoid any dramatic hair cut or color before your session! This is a big one! While it may be tempting to get a new haircut or color beforehand, we recommend waiting until after your senior session (just in case you don’t like it as much as you thought you would). Don't know what to do with your hair & makeup? Hire a professional to do it for you! There are plenty of hair and makeup artists who can help you get ready for the day, and we are more than happy to send you some recommendations.
Locations. Are you drawn to portraits in the city or nature? If you play a sport do you want one at your high school home field? Do you have a cool pc setup you’re proud of? Do you like the waterfront? There are so many great options in Western New York, and we are more than happy to brainstorm with you beforehand.
Props. This can be anything that you use: varsity jacket, football, dance shoes, tennis racket, baton, trumpet, camera, violin, guitar, gaming controller, fun hat, etc.. The possibilities are endless! If you aren’t sure if you can bring something just bring it with you! Chances are it will be a yes!
